ChatGPT Hindi Voice: GPT-Live-1.1 Adds Neer and Leher

On October 15, 2026, OpenAI rolled out GPT-Live-1.1, a new version of the voice model behind ChatGPT Voice. The headline for India: two new Hindi voices, named Neer and Leher, plus better handling of conversations that mix English and Hindi. Here is what the sources confirm.

What changed

• GPT-Live-1.1 improves pronunciation and adds 13 new voices across seven languages, including two Hindi voices, Neer and Leher (Moneycontrol and The Hindu BusinessLine, Oct 15-16, 2026).
• OpenAI says it is working on conversations where users switch between English and Hindi in the same session (Moneycontrol, quoting OpenAI's CTO of Applications, Vijaye Raji).
• The rollout starts in the ChatGPT app. Developer API access is described as coming "soon" (Moneycontrol). We could not find a date.

Who gets which model

OpenAI's system card says GPT-Live-1.1 is the default voice model for Plus and higher plans. GPT-Live-1.1 Quip, a smaller version, is the default for other users. The card also describes the models as full-duplex: they can listen and respond at the same time, so they can follow pauses and interruptions instead of waiting for a clear turn to end.

Why India is in focus

The Hindu BusinessLine reports that ChatGPT usage in India has doubled over the past year, and Moneycontrol calls India OpenAI's second largest ChatGPT market. Raji called India an "audio-first market". The Hindu BusinessLine also notes the ChatGPT Go plan at Rs 399 a month, which started in India.

What we have not verified

We have not tested the new Hindi voices ourselves, and the sources do not say how well they handle regional accents or code-mixed speech such as Hinglish in practice. Rollout can reach accounts at different times, so you may not see Neer and Leher yet. Judge the quality by trying it, not by launch claims.
